Creating a Writing Life - Writing Series

In this workshop, participants will engage in discussions, writing exercises and readings that explore why we write and create and how we create space in our lives for creative pursuits. Experienced writer and teaching artist Leticia Urieta will talk about her journey as a writer, navigating submissions, publishing and writing across genres and lead the group in generative writing exercises that explore participants' dreams, hopes and goals for their own creative lives. This workshop is intended for participants 18+.

About our speaker: 
Leticia Urieta (she/her/hers) is a Tejana writer from Austin, TX. She is a teaching artist in the greater Austin community and is also a freelance writer. She is a graduate of Agnes Scott College and holds an MFA in Fiction writing from Texas State University. Her work appears or is forthcoming in Chicon Street Poets, Lumina, The Offing, Kweli Journal, Medium, Electric Lit and others. Her chapbook, The Monster was published in 2018 from LibroMobile Press. Her hybrid collection, Las Criaturas, from FlowerSong Press was a finalist for the Sergio Troncoso Award for Best First Book of Fiction 2022 from the Texas Institute of Letters and a finalist for the 2024 Next Generation Indie Book Awards for Short Story Collections. Her first comic, Thirteen Origins: Cloudbreak #1, co-created with artist and writer Verena Rodriguez, is out in July 2024 from Scout Comics.
